Kitchen Plan - Whether you have a small space or big one, whether it is L-shaped, U-shaped or just a Corridor Kitchen, we have plan for all varieties, just read our this week's special issue, decorate kitchen to reflect your signature. Learn how to decorate, arrange and maintain your kitchen . The first issue is whether you will go for an open kitchen or a closed one?For small space, an open kitchen is just the ideal one, as it gives the feeling as if the kitchen is more spacious. On the contrary, a closed kitchen is recommended when you have more space. An open one, in a spacious apartment, will give the feeling, as if, it is smaller that its actual size. So when the space is small, go for the open one and when you have more space, go for close one. Simple.

Both of this form has its own advantages as well as disadvantages.

The open one gives you the scope to interact with the family members and the guests as well during cooking. These are typically positioned at a place near the dining/drawing room. So, you can also show your valuable accessories and equipments.

Whereas, the closed one gives you the scope to keep it out of the sight of your guests, so, you can easily maintain your privacy. No one would be able to see, what you use or how are you preparing a dish. That's the reason that people often tend to go for a closed one at the first instance.

Anyway for an open one, you must keep it clean, otherwise, it may create an awkward situation for you. Whereas, in the closed one, you need not bother for keeping it clean every now and then and concentrate for the cause that brings you there.

However, your lifestyle, your personality plays an important role in choosing between the two. If you are introvert, want to cook all by yourself in a private corner of your apartment, you must go with the closed one. And if you love to talk with people, interact with people then there is nothing better than an open kitchen.

How to seperate your open kitchen from the rest of the apartment?

For a closed one, this question does not arise as it will naturally surrounded with four-walls, but for open one, you must pin-point a line of demarkation, a border line between the room and the kitchen, so that, anybody can identify its seperate existance. Otherwise, you have to face awkward queries, like, where is your kitchen?

You may consider constructing a small solid seperation, a waist-height wall to serve the purpose. Otherwise, you may use ply-board seperation, or fancy railings, grills, metal-fencing to demark it. A suspending semi-permeable curtain is also a great idea to seperate it from the rest of the house.

Anyway, whatever you for seperation, make it upto waist height, as that will bring the style you are looking for.

Making the floor slightly elevated, this is a great idea to seperate your kitchen space from the rest of the apartment. You may lower the ceiling height, use different color shade to give it a distinguished look.

Kitchen Shape

Depending upon place, space and orientation, you kitchen may have different shape.

L-Shape : This is the most common. The oven and the refrigerator usually stay at the two remote points of the 'L' while the sink stays in the center. You can attach cabinet or cupboards for keeping utensils, vegetables and spices and other necessary things. If the space is too small, you can go on for wall-mounting for more judicious use of space.

U-Shape : The oven and sink stay side by side while the refrigerator stays on the opposite side. Attach cabinet /cupboards below the platform. Go on for decorative wall-mountings atleast for the sake of style. This is a good shape for any spacious kitchen.

Corridor Kitchen: This are positioned along side the corridor, here also the oven and the sink goes side by side and refrigerator in the same line. As these are typically constructed when the space is limited, so, you are forced to use wall-mountings, hooks and shelves to save space. But use of decorative items will surely add a touch of style to this form also.
